This list was originally compiled sometime between the releases of Netscape 1.0 and Firefox 1.0. It was periodically updated until the end of the 20th century, and has since had only sporadic attention to broken and/or updated links and addition of new sites. Organization of, and placement within, categories is sometimes a bit happenstance and inconsistent. Nevertheless, it's still occasionally useful, and sometimes interesting to see how sites have come and gone and changed over the years as the internet evolved from its initial ideal as a repository of knowledge to its present conglomeration of knowledge, commercialism and clouds.
